| The Kyneton Mechanics Institute (KMI) was constructed in stages between 1858 and 1877 and is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. It is situated on Crown Land in the heart of Kyneton and Council is the Committee of Management responsible to the State Government.
The hall is in need of refurbishment and has been unused for a number of years having previously housed the Kyneton library, Kyneton Historical Society and Kyneton Senior Citizens as well as other minor community use.
Macedon Ranges Shire Council is committed to refurbishing the KMI and has allocated $1M in funds and engaged architects and other consultants to prepare plans to tender the refurbishment works.
