| Enlightenment Project 2009 - 2010 | | The Kyneton Museum is part of the Pilot Program COLLECTING STORIES IN THE GOLDFIELDS supported by the Victorian Government through Arts Victoria and the Department of Planning and Community Development.
This project is about looking at new ways of translating stories that objects tell and in the process assist community museums in their interpretation of local history. We want to excite and engage communities about their stories.
If you would like to be involved please place an application by 5.00 pm Friday 13th November. Application guidelines are available to download via the link below.
|
| The Kyneton Museum is located at 67 Piper Street, Kyneton, conveniently located less than an hour north of Melbourne along the Calder Freeway.
The Museum Collection is housed in a beautiful bluestone building recognised by the National Trust. The building was built in 1856 as a Bank of New South Wales, to meet the banking needs of a fast changing population on its way to the central Victorian Goldfields.
The original banking chamber has changing exhibitions and the upstairs bank manager's residence and outdoor exhibits including original bluestone stables, servant's kitchen, laundry and Theaden Cottage, have a fascinating display. A wide variety of carriages and historical agricultural equipment is also displayed.

| Hours of Operation | | Friday to Sunday 11am - 4pm
The Museum can be opened by appointment for group tours and school group visits during the week and public holidays.
